Kelaca is looking for a qualified Expansion Project Safety Lead located in Northampton (Garysburg, NC) for our client partner. It is a contract position with intention to convert, will report directly to the Corporate Construction Safety and Environmental Director, and will work closely with the Site EHS Manager to identify and manage hazards related to the integration of construction and manufacturing activities. The Expansion Project Safety Lead is responsible for the safe execution of construction activities related to the expansion project and ensuring that they meet the requirements of the client’s Safe Work Practices.
Administer, direct and manage compliance with the client’s safety program and project safe-work efforts to ensure the client and project safety goals are met. This includes the authority and ability to change and/or adjust work procedures as may be required to ensure the safety of affected employees and other site personnel.
Oversee contractor safety professionals to ensure the effective administration of the project/company accident prevention efforts.
Enforce compliance with safety-related programs that meet, or may exceed, OSHA safety standards. This includes the ability to make independent judgments concerning the general safety of work.
Initiate, perform, and document jobsite inspections and audits with special emphasis on hazard recognition, unsafe behaviors and correction of potential third party, asset loss and workers compensation losses. This necessitates the ability to think independently, communicate thoroughly and facilitate the implementation of corrective measures.
Initiate, coordinate and conduct safety meetings and training programs to ensure the effective communication of the client’s policy and safety standards.
Coordinate and participate in regulatory agency inspections and investigations to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
Review of job hazard analysis determination.
Drive the incident investigation process to ensure timely, complete and accurate reporting of safety-related incidents.
Implement and maintain the client’s Safe Work Practices to ensure all work is performed in accordance with corporate, federal and state EHS requirements.
Attend and participate in the project related meetings as required.
Ensure sub-contractor compliance with safety and health requirements.
Maintain a list of hazardous/regulated chemicals on site and associated safety data sheets.

High School Diploma (or GED equivalent) required.
Bachelor’s Degree preferred in a related field (engineering, construction management, safety management).
A minimum of 5 years of construction industry safety experience, or a combination of construction and general industry experience.
30-hour OSHA construction safety class, or equivalent, within the last 5 years.
Twenty-four hours of formal safety training (or equivalent training) within each of the past 4 years.
Experience with construction projects in the $100 million range with multiple contractor participation.
Complete working knowledge of CFR 1926 and 1910 standards
Strong computer skills required.
Ability to work well and communicate efficiently with clients, subcontractors, and other team members.
Ability to exemplify and enforce compliance with the client’s safety culture.
Willingness to work nights, weekends and extended hours as required by project needs.
May be exposed to heat, cold, dust, loud noises, heights, and other construction-related hazards.

Hours of Work: Monday-Friday, some Saturdays: Potentially long hours pending stage of construction and requirements for the project
